"
How we fund
Grant requests are usually made by teachers
or administrators who know about a current
need.  If you know about a need in our
community, please
contact us.
In Memory
SAC  contributes a portion of the
proceeds to a perpetual fund in
memory of one of its founding
members, Elinor T. Gately
About Us >
Who we are
Melrose SAC began in 1972 with a small
group of women  reaching out to patients in
the Melrose Wakefield Hospital. They had a
simple dream – to share their time and good
fortune with others in their community.  Their
efforts focused on helping psychiatric
patients with daily living skills.  This small
group of women pooled their time and
resources, donating a piano, kitchen
supplies and toys – everything they could to
improve the quality of the patients’ lives.

Their dreams grew, and they knew they
needed more money to achieve them
The First Fundraiser
The first fundraiser was launched in 1974.
The founding members hosted a fashion
show in the basement of the Church of the
Incarnation in Melrose. There wasn’t much
money available to produce the show, but
that didn’t stop them.  The ladies made  their
debut as fashion models - and their
husbands accompanied them down the
runway.
